When I was young, I wanted to avoid getting a 9-5 job like it was the plague. I would get home grade school at around 3:30pm, my parents would get home at 6pm. I was wise enough to understand that they could not truly enjoy their lives the way they wanted to.
We would go on vacations every now and then, but it was normally somewhere within the state because they were only allowed to escape their cubicle for a few days at a time.
With that said… it’s no wonder that making a living (or a side income) online is popular. It allows you to ease your never-ending financial worries. It also give you the potential to transition into a full-time online income.
As a freelancer and personal brand, I have compiled a list of 3 low-risk ways for you to make a side-income online.

This is a bit off-topic in terms of freelancing, but it may help you choose a skill to learn. The ‘Holy Trifecta’ will also allow you to transition into other areas of online business aside from freelancing. You can freelance with any one of these skills.
In order to make sales online, you need 3 things:
- An offer
- A place to house that offer
- Traffic to the offer
If you can learn the skills necessary to create a killer offer, build a ‘house’ for that offer, and continuously drive traffic to that offer – you have cracked the code to unlimited money in your bank account.
Copywriting has grown in popularity recently. People AND businesses are starting to realize it’s ability to skyrocket sales.
In a nutshell, copywriting, as a marketing discipline, is the art of written persuasion. You help businesses increase their product/service sales by deeply understanding the problem you are trying to solve with said product/service.
If you can create a product/service as a solution to a specific problem and proceed to convince people to purchase it with your writing, you have a killer offer.
Web design is not just building websites. You can build:
- Multi-page websites
- Single-page websites
- Landing pages
- Sales funnels
- Membership sites
- Squeeze pages
Web design gives you the ability to house your offer. The more you understand conversion centered design and copywriting, the better it will sell.

2. Selling Info Products
Info products, compared to physical products, have one huge advantage – you create it once and sell it infinitely.

How can you take advantage? Follow these steps.
Understand Where You Are Currently At
Clearly, you won’t be able to create an info product (ebook, video course, etc.) if you don’t have a solid understanding of the topic you want to teach.
In order to create an effective info product that sells, you will have to have a deep understanding of a particular topic.
You are good at something that other people aren’t good at. You can package that knowledge up nicely into an ebook or course and sell it.
Determine A Specific Problem You Can Solve
If you are extremely knowledgeable on the topic of mindfulness and meditation, you can create a product that teaches others what you know.
In order to sell your product, you need to understand the problem you are solving.
Using meditation as our example – it reduces anxiety, stress, and other emotions that many people struggle with. If you can position your product in a way to help those who struggle with this, it will sell. That is, if you have the next step locked down.
Drive Traffic To Your Offer
We talked about driving traffic earlier with social media, paid ads, or organic search (SEO). The key to this is having targeted traffic.
You can’t sell a meditation product to someone who is an expert in meditation. You will need to either build a niche social media audience, narrow down your paid ads targeting, or create content relevant to the product you are promoting.
3. Affiliate Marketing
Before I started building an audience on Twitter, I would hear the words “affiliate marketing” and I would cringe. There were only 2 things that I knew about affiliate marketing:
- There are links everywhere
- It can make you rich
I was looking from the outside in. I would get scammy DMs telling me about how this magical thing called affiliate marketing could make me a ton of money. I had it all wrong though. I clearly had no idea what affiliate marketing actually was.
For those that are unaware – affiliate marketing is when you promote someone else’s product for a commission.
As an example, I use Hypefury to schedule my tweets – that link you see right there is an affiliate link. If you click that link and purchase the software, I get a small commission.
You can do this with nearly every product. Since my largest platform is Twitter, that is where I see it the most. I would argue that affiliate marketing on Twitter is the quickest way to start making a solid 4-figure income.
Let me be clear here. Affiliate marketing is not some magical hack to get around the foundations of online business. It is simply a way to promote a product that you did not spend the time and effort creating yourself.
You still need to have a solid understanding of a few marketing disciplines for this to work well. You don’t need to create the offer, but you do need to drive traffic to it.
If you want to become an affiliate marketer, here are some things to consider.
- You will need an audience or traffic source (like social media or SEO for a blog)
- Traffic to your offer will need to be related to the product you are promoting
- You should use the product before promoting so you know that it is quality
All in all, this post was meant to give you ideas, not give you a full-fledged business plan for each option.
I was inspired to write this post because of a viral post that I saw titled “How To Make an Extra $1000/month in 2020.” The referenced post included things like “Charge electric scooters,” and “Take online surveys.” It boggled my mind how these are still considered good advice. These are not sustainable and they do not give you the ability to scale.
So if you want to drive around and collect scooters for a small paycheck each month, be my guest.
